Our neighbors were all wonderful and assisted us by making it possible to transport Rikki-tikki to the water. We had to cross three properties, through five wire field fences, just to get to paved road. Here we are meandering between some native valley oak trees. Once on the road, we had to contend with rural mailboxes and skinny clearances between poles and signs plus, it was trash day! We moved a lot of big cans that day. It took us, with the large entourage following closely behind, two hours to go the ten miles to the Discovery Park launch ramp at the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers. Drivers don't seem to understand what "OVERSIZE LOAD" means, and several vehicles ignored the pilot cars, making for some tense moments. Two hours in the parking area at the top of the ramp affixing rigging to the mast, hooking up the radar, allowed enough time before the crane arrived to lift the mast into the air. Lots of friends came by to watch and some stayed the entire four hours at the park until Rikki got wet for the first time! Thanks for sharing our big day! |
